FAQ

faqsAnswers provided by Dr. Francis Gonzalez, I-ACT Certified Colon Hydrotherapy Instructor, to commonly asked questions about colon hydrotherapy and colonic treatments.

DOES FLUID OFFER THE BEST COLONICS IN NEW YORK?

Yes! Most colonic centers in New York are operated by untrained staff using unregulated home-made devices. These devices are often poorly designed and can expose the patient to fecal contamination and highly unpleasant odors. The most notorious offenders are colonic centers that utilize so-called Woods Gravity devices or Colenz devices meant for home use. At Fluid Water Therapy, we only utilize the FDA-registered Angel of Water colon hydrotherapy systems and all our therapists are trained and certified by the International Association of Colon Therapists (I-ACT).

IS COLON HYDROTHERAPY SAFE?
Yes, but only when performed by professional colon hydrotherapists. Most colonic practitioners in New York are NOT certified by I-ACT and use unsanitary Woods Gravity devices that expose the patient to fecal contamination. Our Angel of Water colon hydrotherapy system is FDA-registered and our patients’ colonic sessions are much more comfortable and safer than with any other colonic system in the market.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A COLONIC AND AN ENEMA?
An enema only reaches the rectum and lower part of the colon.  Colon hydrotherapy reaches the entire length of the colon — including the cecum, transverse, and descending colon — and is significantly more effective than an enema for removing fecal matter. “One colon irrigation is equivalent to 30 enemas” according to Dr. Norman Walker MD.

ARE COLONIC SESSIONS PAINFUL?
Not when you use our Angel of Water colon hydrotherapy system.  Most of our clients report that their colon hydrotherapy sessions at Fluid Water Therapy are refreshing and relaxing. This contrasts significantly with other clinics that use invasive and uncomfortable devices like Hydro-Sans, Dotolo, and Woods Gravity.

HOW MUCH AREA IS CLEANSED DURING A COLONIC SESSION?
Any professionally-trained colon hydrotherapist would never allow a patient’s colonic session to last longer than 45 minutes, to avoid the risk of dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. In most cases, a patient should expect to undergo five (5) colonic sessions if he or she wishes to cleanse the entire length of the colon.

ARE THERE ANY CONTRAINDICATIONS?
We always recommend that you consult your physician or licensed healthcare practitioner if you have any concerns about the appropriateness of colon hydrotherapy. Contraindications for colon hydrotherapy include, but are not limited to — recent surgery, congestive heart failure, intestinal perforations, carcinoma of the rectum, fissures or fistula, severe hemorrhoids, abdominal hernia, renal insufficiency, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, blood in stool, first or last trimester of pregnancy, and cirrhosis of the liver. No professional colon hydrotherapist would ever perform a colonic session without first verifying the client’s health history.

IS THERE ANY DANGER OF CONTAMINATION?
Our Angel of Water system utilizes disposable, sterile rectal nozzles and a multi-stage sanitation protocol. The use of sterile disposables and sanitation protocols, combined with Fluid Water Therapy’s use of EPA-registered disinfectants removes the danger of contamination. Bear in mind that our hygiene standards are higher than other colonic therapists in New York, as most utilize unregistered devices that may lack contamination safeguards.

HOW LONG DOES A COLONIC SESSION TAKE?
A typical colonic session usually lasts 30 to 40 minutes so as to achieve effective colon cleansing without causing electrolyte and hydration imbalances. During your first visit to Fluid Water Therapy, please allow yourself an extra 45 minutes to discuss your goals and special needs with our certified colon hydrotherapists.

CAN I HAVE A COLONIC DURING MENSTRUATION?
Certainly! Some colonic practitioners consider it a particularly good time for a female to have a colonic since the body is already undergoing a cleansing cycle. The decision to have a colonic while menstruating is strictly a matter of personal preference.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR A COLONIC?
Please arrive on time! That ensures that you and other patients will have a relaxing colonic session. You should also refrain from eating anything heavy within 2 hours prior to your session. We also provide a full array of restorative organic juices to enhance your post-therapy experience.

WILL I BE TIRED AFTER MY COLONIC?
You will probably feel much lighter, although some clients report feeling like they just finished a workout.  Therefore, we recommend that you sip warm or restorative liquids after your colonic therapy to restore your system.

AFTER MY COLONIC, CAN I GO BACK TO WORK OR WORK OUT?
Absolutely!  You can work just as you would after a regular bowel movement.
